FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES – General Information

Students enrolled in programmes taught in English may choose either a German language course at the B2/B2+ level or an Academic English course at the C1 level, with the exception of selected programmes: Nursing, Medicine, and Philology.

If a sufficient number of international students enrol, a Polish as a Foreign Language course may be offered.

In first-cycle programmes, the language course lasts four semesters and concludes with an examination: at the B2 level in the case of German, or at the C1 level in the case of Academic English. 

In long-cycle Master's programmes, the language course lasts five semesters and concludes with an examination: at the B2+ level in the case of German, or at the C1 level in the case of Academic English. During the language course in long-cycle Master's programmes, students receive instruction in both general language skills and specialist language relevant to their field of study.

In second-cycle programmes, the language course lasts two semesters and concludes with an examination: at the B2+ level in the case of German, or at the C1 level in the case of Academic English. The course focuses on specialist language relevant to the field of study.

In programmes taught in English, language classes may be conducted in interdisciplinary groups consisting of students from different degree programmes.

FOREIGN LANGUAGE COURSES – Selected Programmes

MEDICINE

For non-Polish-speaking students enrolled in the Medicine programme, the compulsory language course is Medical Polish, which is taught during Semesters I, II, III, and IV and concludes with an examination. Students with a good command of Polish attend Medical English classes. 

ARCHITECTURE – SECOND-CYCLE PROGRAMME: ENGLISH FOR ARCHITECTS

Students enrolled in the second-cycle Architecture programme take the course English for Architects. The course focuses on specialist architectural language at the B2+ level and concludes with an examination.

NURSING AND EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES – FIRST-CYCLE PROGRAMMES

In the first-cycle Nursing and Emergency Medical Services programmes, the language course lasts four semesters and concludes with an examination at the B2 level. For Polish-speaking students, German is a compulsory language course, while for non-Polish-speaking students, Polish is compulsory. Students are expected to achieve proficiency at the B2 level.

In the second-cycle Nursing and Emergency Medical Services programmes, the language course lasts three semesters. Each semester concludes with a graded assessment. For Polish-speaking students, German is a compulsory language course, while for non-Polish-speaking students, Polish is compulsory. Students are expected to achieve proficiency at the B2+ level.

PHILOLOGY

Students enrolled in a Philology programme are required to complete a foreign language course in a language other than their major language. The foreign language course begins in the second semester of study (except for students of English Philology with an additional Oriental language and Spanish Philology with an additional Oriental language programmes). Registration for the language course takes place during the winter semester of the first year. Students will be informed when registration is required.
